Great Horned Owl - Kamloops, BC

I wish you had been beside me for this. The light was not great at first. It came in from the side and felt a little sharp. I almost walked away. I thought the moment was gone.

Then the young owl shifted slightly on the snag. The sun side-lit the owlet. It sat there in the warm light as if it was thinking about its first days in the world. It looked calm and unsure at the same time. As strange as it may seem I could almost feel its thoughts. A mix of fear and hope. A small sense of joy at simply being alive. Now that’s a powerful connection to nature.

If you had been there I think you would have felt that same way.

This is the kind of moment that started Field Light.
If this image speaks to you the summer issue will too.
