Let them use the space

Sandhill Crane

My favourite times in the field are the ones when I manage to get into a good location and settle into a solid spot. This does not happen every time, and when it does, it usually takes patience. With these Sandhill Cranes, I stayed still and let them come to me. I allowed them to choose their own direction and pace. Once they were comfortable, I watched how they moved and planned my opportunities from there. Nothing felt forced. The moment developed on its own, and the photographs came naturally from the way the birds decided to use the space.
